Living Stillness

July 19 - July 20 2024

Commuter Retreat

Participants may either camp on the Hall’s farm (limited availability) or find their own accommodations near the retreat location.

Zion Lutheran Church | 2233 Abbeyville Rd. | Valley City, Ohio 44280

All are welcome

Facilitators: Adam Moskowitz & Beth Gatchell

You are invited to gather in a beautiful, communal setting, to rediscover the awake and vibrant energy of stillness.

Retreat is a unique opportunity to learn the art of dwelling in the present moment, the place where love and growth is possible, as Jon Kabat-Zinn has said. To attend retreat is to let go of our entrenched habits and demanding routines, to take refuge in silence, togetherness, and an ancient rhythm.

When we get quiet and turn inward in this way, we begin to harmonize with the vast and unchanging loving-awareness of the heart-mind, opening up to a kind of spacious ease that feels new and beautiful yet somehow familiar.

The structure and protective environment of retreat supports us to become aware of our conditioning - the way we endlessly edge towards another moment. We gradually learn to put down the exhausting pursuit of avoiding our inner experience and let go of striving, seeking, solving, fixing, and managing. We develop a pristine seeing, clear of our regular intellectual filters.

As we deepen our practice, we sense the depth of unconditional love in our hearts and discover that all moments offer the potential to help us awaken, enjoy, and be more kind.

Our retreat space includes a beautiful indoor gathering space/ fellowship hall that is warm and light-filled. The church sits on top of a hill overlooking beautiful scenic countryside. There are ample indoor and outdoor spaces for contemplation and walking and a beautiful enclosed courtyard. The grounds are lovingly cared for by folks in the congregation and offer a peaceful sanctuary for stillness and encountering and cultivating deep mindfulness.
