Living Stillness

Land of Medicine Buddha

Soquel, CA

Thursday, October 30, 2025 (4pm) – Sunday, November 2, 2025 (2pm)

All are welcome.

Teaching: Adam Moskowitz & Rayamin Yang | Bodywork: Alex Mart

We invite you to gather in a beautiful, communal setting, as we care for our bodies, minds, and hearts within the shared container of retreat. Whatever is true for you—whatever is unfolding in your life and inner world—come as you are. This retreat is open to new and experienced practitioners of meditation and mindfulness.

Retreat is a rare chance to dwell more fully in the here and now, where love and growth are possible, as Jon Kabat-Zinn has said. We will slow down, release our demanding routines, and be nourished by silence, nature, and community. We will take refuge in practice—allowing the steady rhythm of meditation and awareness to hold us as we lean into the present.

On retreat, we surrender the exhausting pursuit of endlessly straining to be elsewhere, meeting each moment as an opportunity to awaken, enjoy, and be more kind. We discover a spacious ease that feels radiant and new—yet somehow familiar.

Land of Medicine Buddha is a magnificent 108-acre redwood refuge near Santa Cruz, CA.

Retreat includes:

  • Sitting & walking meditation*

  • Gentle movement

  • Journaling, group reflection, and Q/A

  • Optional 1:1 meetings

  • Dharma talk(s)

  • Delicious vegetarian meals

  • Sauna

  • Hiking trails and a tranquil, forested setting

*Prioritizing self-care is at the heart of this retreat. Resting on your back or using a chair in the space is absolutely welcomed.

Schedule

  • Room check-in begins at 4pm on Thursday. We invite you to arrive earlier, hike on the beautiful trails, visit sacred sites, use the sauna, and connect with others.

  • There is a required orientation at 5:45pm before dinner, followed by a short evening session.

  • Friday and Saturday each offer a full day of group sessions and time to rest.

  • The retreat ends around 2pm on Sunday.

Silence

  • Beginning Friday morning, we will enter a period of silence and formal guided practice, which will continue until Sunday around lunchtime. There will be time for journaling, group reflection, and questions.  You will be fully supported with guidance, teachings, and the gift of being together.

  • While some may feel hesitant about getting quiet in this way, many discover a deep, previously unrecognized longing for it. When paired with mindfulness, community, nourishing food, and time in nature, silence becomes an unparalleled gateway to insight, self-discovery, and renewal.

Food

  • Dinner will be offered on Thursday night. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be offered on Friday and Saturday. Breakfast and lunch will be offered on Sunday.

  • The dining hall is accessible 24/7 and is equipped with a full size fridge for retreatants to use. A coffee and tea bar, with all the fixings, is also available in the dining hall. If you bring additional food, it must stored in the dining room so we don't attract critters to the rooms.

  • We are delighted to be partnering with Niko Henri, who will offer high quality herbal tea each afternoon. Niko has been a life long lover of tea and has been practicing gong fu cha (the art of making tea) and chanoyu (Japanese tea ceremony) for 5 years. They believe that making tea is its own form of meditation, and they look forward to bringing these together to fill your cup.

Additional Details

  • In addition to the forest trails, sauna, dining hall, and meditation hall, guests will find a welcoming indoor communal area—perfect for unwinding, enjoying a cup of tea, or journaling in quiet reflection.

  • Bodywork:* Alex Mart will be offering a limited number of Craniosacral Therapy sessions, a gentle, subtle touch modality that listens to the body and soothes the nervous system, offering a wonderful way to drop in and transition from the bustle of daily life to the peace of retreat. You might think of it as a deeply relaxing, hands-on, nurturing, embodied drop-in meditation in itself. *Bodywork spaces are currently full—indicate below if you'd like to be added to the waitlist or learn more about booking a session before or after the retreat in Alex’s Oakland office.

  • Once registered (below), Adam will email you detailed information and directions at least a week prior to the retreat.
