Living Stillness Retreat

Land of Medicine Buddha

Soquel, CA

Wednesday, October 28, 2026 (4pm) – Sunday, November 1, 2026 (2pm)

Teaching: Adam Moskowitz | Movement & Bodywork: Alex Mart

Join us as we care for our bodies, minds, and hearts within the shared container of retreat. Whatever is true for you—whatever is unfolding in your life and inner world—come as you are. This retreat is open to new and experienced practitioners of meditation and mindfulness.

Retreat offers a rare chance to dwell more fully in the here and now, where love and growth are possible, as Jon Kabat-Zinn has said.

On retreat, we take refuge in practice, nature, and community. We slow down and release our demanding routines. We let go of the exhausting pursuit of trying to be elsewhere. We learn to recognize each moment as an opportunity to awaken, enjoy, and be more kind. Retreat teaches us to encounter our deepest presence directly: radiant, new, and somehow familiar.

  • We ask that you arrive no later than 5:00pm.

  • A required orientation begins at 5:45pm followed by dinner and a short evening session.

  • Thursday, Friday, and Saturday each include a full day of group sessions and time for rest.

  • The retreat ends around 2pm on Sunday.

  • Although Land of Medicine Buddha may host public events during our stay, this retreat follows its own structured schedule, which participants are expected to follow.

Silence

On Wednesday evening, we will begin settling into a quieter space. Beginning Thursday morning, we will enter a period of silence and formal guided practice, which will continue until around lunchtime on Sunday.

While some may feel hesitant about becoming quiet in this way, many discover a deep and previously unrecognized longing for it. When paired with mindfulness, community, nourishing food, and time in nature, silence can become a powerful gateway to insight, self-discovery, and renewal.

Throughout the retreat, you will be fully supported through guided meditation, teachings, opportunities for reflection and questions, and the gift of practicing together.

Food

  • Dinner will be offered on Wednesday night.

  • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be offered on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

  • Breakfast and lunch will be offered on Sunday.

  • The dining hall is accessible 24/7 and is equipped with a full size fridge for retreatants to use. A coffee and tea bar, with all the fixings, is also available in the dining hall. If you bring additional food, it must stored in the dining room so we don't attract critters to the rooms.

Bodywork

  • Alex Mart will be offering a limited number of Craniosacral Therapy sessions, a gentle, subtle touch modality that listens to the body and soothes the nervous system, offering a wonderful way to drop in and transition from the bustle of daily life to the peace of retreat. You might think of it as a deeply relaxing, hands-on, nurturing, embodied drop-in meditation in itself.

  • Although sessions are limited during the retreat, Alex has generously offered to coordinate pre-retreat sessions at her office as well (5270 College Ave, Oakland). To help you get the most out of your retreat, we highly recommend booking a session with Alex if you can.

  • Shared room & bathroom: $1050
